From Global Dialogue to Collective Action: Why Networks Matter More Than Ever

Last Tuesday, 17th March, I had the privilege of attending the Global Health Summit—an event grounded in the theme of collaboration, co-production, and strengthening health systems through global partnerships.

It was a powerful gathering, but what made it particularly meaningful was that it was a dedicated diaspora day—bringing together professionals working abroad who remain deeply connected to their home countries. A diaspora, in this context, refers to communities of people living outside their country of origin, yet actively contributing, influencing, and giving back through their expertise, networks, and leadership.

I attended representing both the Philippine Nurses Association UK—a charity supporting Filipino nurses and healthcare professionals—and the Filipino Senior Nurse Alliance, a growing network of senior leaders across the UK.

Beyond Conversation: Facing the Realities

The discussions were honest and necessary.

We heard about ethical recruitment, retention challenges, and the lived experiences of internationally educated healthcare professionals. Conversations around equity and parity between the UK as a host country and countries like the Philippines were not just theoretical—they were grounded in real stories, real challenges, and real opportunities for change.

But what stood out most was this:

we were not just invited to listen—we were invited to contribute.

Bridging Two Systems Through One Identity

One of the most powerful moments of the day was engaging directly with representatives from the Philippine Department of Health, including the Undersecretary.

As Filipino senior nurses working in the UK, we explored how we can actively bridge knowledge, skills, and leadership across borders.

We spoke about:

  • Advancing clinical practice

  • Strengthening leadership pathways

  • Creating collaborative programmes that benefit both the UK and the Philippines

There was a shared recognition that Filipino nurses are uniquely positioned—not just as a workforce, but as a bridge between two healthcare systems.

And that bridge, when strengthened, has the potential to improve patient outcomes, workforce sustainability, and global health equity.

The Power of Shared Purpose

Another highlight was connecting with fellow Filipino colleagues whose passion continues to drive innovation within the UK.

These are individuals who, despite demanding roles, choose to give their time, energy, and expertise to support others—both locally and internationally.

That kind of commitment does something powerful.

It re-energises you.

It grounds your purpose.

It reminds you that while the work can be complex and, at times, challenging—it is never meant to be done alone.

Why Spaces Like This Matter

Events like this don’t just inform—they ignite.

They sharpen our direction, realign our values, and reinforce the importance of collective effort. There’s something about being in a room of like-minded individuals that creates both resonance and accountability.

You leave not just inspired—but responsible for taking action.

From Insight to Action: The Acceleration Room

And this is exactly why I created The Acceleration Room as part of Wednesdays with James.

Because growth doesn’t happen in isolation.

The Acceleration Room is about:

  • Building intentional networks

  • Creating spaces for honest conversations

  • Surrounding yourself with people who challenge and elevate you

  • Turning reflection into action

If the summit reminded me of anything, it’s this:

Your environment shapes your trajectory.

So if you’re looking to move forward—whether in leadership, career progression, or impact—find your room. Find your people.

And if you don’t have one yet, you’re always welcome in ours.

Let’s Stay Connected

If this resonates with you, I encourage you to explore and connect:

Final Reflection

This experience reaffirmed something I’ve always believed:

Small conversations can lead to global change—when the right people are in the room.

The question is:

Are you in the right room?
